This paper tries to discuss the future development of the study of international politics as a subject in mainland China. The research scope of international politics manifests its integration with international relations, its interdisciplinary essence as well as its representation of a particular time period. In the aspects of research methodology and content, the study of international politics in Mainland China is now moving from“news commentary”or“narratives”with one-fold historical methodology to“study”or“research”combining methodologies of humanity and science. It stresses the integration of current affairs and theoretical studies, as well as the combination of social value and academic value. Finally, the big power status of China as well as the development of the study of international politics itself both determine the future“Chinese characteristics”of the study of international politics in China, with its unique theoretical system and analytical framework. Based on the extensive learning and selective borrowing from the western theories of international politics,“Chinese characteristics”could be achieved or created through the combination of international politics and Chinese practices, which reflect Chinese issues, Chinese values, Chinese sense and even Chinese discourse. |
