The purpose of this study is to discuss Adorno and Horkheimer's critiques of the Enlightenment from the perspective of modern artworks. In order to clarify, this article summarizes six issues. All of them are related to the specific blindness in preceding processes of enlightenment. By comparing Francis Bacon's paintings with Deleuze's analysis of Bacon, it shows that modern artistic creation can transcend the flaws of the Enlightenment. This demonstrates that critiques of the Enlightenment can find its argument in modern artworks. |
