India's shift from its much celebrated 'Look East' policy to 'Act East' policy is generally understood in terms of its further geographical expansion beyond Association of South East Asian National (ASEAN) as also in terms of India deepening its strategic linkages with major regional players across the Asia-Pacific region thereby taking relations beyond trade, commerce, economic development to strategic, defence and security partnerships to together address regional development and security challenges. Some Indian diplomats have provided value loaded interpretation and describe this shift as one from ''a passive adumbration'' to ''greater action and dynamism. where it continues to be engaged economically, socially and from a geostrategic point of view.'' |
