In 2014, the current situation of Northeast Asia can be interpreted as both opportunities and crises to Republic of Korea (South Korea). For South Korea, the traditional framework for its national security might be the alliance with the USA, confronting North Korean military threat. Although the nature of North Korean military power has turned into more threatening with its development of nuclear weapons since 1990s, and the countermeasure for the given threat became more globalized with UN debate on North Korean nuclear project, it is still the ROKUS alliance that provides the main framework for keeping South Korea's national security. |
