Online food delivery (OFD) provides more diversified dietary choices for Taiwanese, and people increase the chance of ordering from OFD, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, food hygiene and safety challenges of OFD also elicit from its rising. This study aims to figure out the potential food safety risk from OFD through online questionnaires of consumers, food delivery person and OFD restaurants. Furthermore, 20 different kinds of meals were ordered from a popular food delivery platform to investigate the food pathogens in accordance with Taiwan’s Sanitation Standards for Foods. Online questionnaires found out that consumers, food delivery person and restaurants showed general good concept on three food safety literacies during COVID-19 in using OFD, which includes food temperature upon arrival, food containers, and food safety regulations. The unusual experiences of food from OFD were the broken of food containers and package, and food leakage occurred relatively frequently. 19 out of 20 meals’ microbiological analysis were under the limits, however, temperature of 7 cooked food samples were within 7-60℃, which is considered as a danger zone. In summary, in response to the rise of OFD, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration continues to promote the implementation of the Guidelines of Hygiene Self-management for Online Food Delivery Platform Business Operators. Thus, OFD could provide safe food to the consumers. |
