Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has planned and implemented the food delivery platforms inspection project since 2019. The inspection results of the food delivery platforms showed that only 1 case was fined for failing to complete the registration of food businesses in accordance with Food Safety and Sanitation Act. The investigation of the catering-related industry also demonstrated that 3 cases without product liability insurance, 3 cases with expired food material, 1 case violating the regulations of Good Hygienic Practice (GHP), as well as 4 ready-meals failing to pass the examination of Sanitation Standard for Microorganisms in Foods were found. All the food delivery riders passed the field hygienic audits. In response to the fact that ordering food through food delivery platforms has become a new trend in food and beverage consumption area, the stringency of hygiene management to the catering-related industry needs to be strengthened to enforce on food safety, quality, and citizens’ health. Finally, the evaluation of amending Food Safety and Sanitation Act and related regulations to the emerging industry is recommended. |
