Baseball has turned into a “national sport.” However, a series of match-fixingscandals since the 1990s have cast a shadow over the national sport. What do“national sport” and “match fixing” mean for Taiwan? Japanese mystery writers,Seishū Hase and Yoichi Funado, have used Taiwan’s match-fixing scandals forcreative material. However, “match fixing” has not been the main focus of theirwork. Rather, it has been used as a “literary device” to advance the plot. In Taiwan,1970s’ a short story ”Forced out” is considered to be the frist Baseball Novel. Fromthe beginning of the 2010s to the present, two Taiwanese movies, Tears of theNational Sport and The Shadow, try to generate shared feelings between the“reader/national subject”, and attempting to encourage the reader to reflect on“match fixing” and “national sport.” |
