Propagation of religions has been a significant topic in religious studies. With the flourishing of globalization, developments of religions could generate different cultural surges besides the original land. It has been over 60 years for Yiguan Dao to go into Indonesia. Being compared to the overseas developments of other world religions, it is not really a long time. Nevertheless, in such a Southeast Asian country like Indonesia, which excludes the Chinese in their society, Yiguan Dao's rapid growth deserves our concern. In this essay, the general situation of Yiguan Dao's development in post- New Order in Indonesia and the localized characteristics are discussed. Apart from that, in order to see how Yiguan Dao could well propagate in Indonesia, I also make a rough comparison between Yiguan Dao and another Chinese faith in Indonesia, Confucianism. Finally, there are two cases recording the religious conversion from Islam to Yiguan Dao. This part especially lets us think about the developing possibility of stepping across different cultures. |
