In the Sinophone context, actors are considered inherently inferior in social status as prostitutes, not to mention comedians for being seemingly unserious and casual. However, we can’t deny that comedians have talents and contribute to art or even social function. This essay will speak for them, who are usually disregarded in academic research, and discover the sociocultural context intertwine with their autobiography. For seeking the local meaning, I specified in a Taiwanese comedian, Ti Ko-liōng (豬哥亮,1946-2017), through the works his career life such as records, films, advertisements, hosting programs, interviews, and so on, to capture the basic image and feature of the best-known comedian in Taiwan.
In the genealogical sense, I investigated the relationship between political history, economic development, and his performing course. In a tentative conclusion, I found he represents the icon of abreaction from the bad economic boom and local identity. |
