Students' school adjustment influences their academic performance, well-being, and future career development. Scant research has discussed the adjustment of students admitted via the ''Early Admission without GSAT Program,'' which was launched in Taiwan in 2015. This study aims to determine the adjustment conditions of students admitted to college via that special program. A total of 13 qualified research participants were admitted to a college in north Taiwan from 2015 to 2018. They were interviewed for an average of approximately 50 to 90 minutes by the author. The interview data were analyzed from a grounded theory perspective, and the results showed that although academic, social, personal-emotional, and institutional issues were all related to the research participants' school adjustment, the most important factor was their learning interest, which not only controlled their school adjustment, but also differentiated their adjustment from students who were admitted to colleges via other channels. This study sheds new light on how to create a suitable learning environment for ''Early Admission without GSAT Program'' students. |
