The Bliss and Wisdom Educational Park (BWEP), established in 2002, provides a lifelong educational campus for general public. The 40-ha park, which surrounded by 120 hectares of organic farmland, is located in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan. The Park has educational institutions of elementary, middle, and high school, as well as a college that is under preparation. The Park also has a residential area and infostructures such as transportation and parking lots. The Park has a total of 1,437 students, teachers, staffs, and volunteers. The management of park emphasize the sustainable development concept of the Satoyama Initiative. The Park was previously a sugar cane farm that of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation. After the conversion from a barren sugar cane farmland to organic farmland, the biodiversity of the land was enriched substantially. This research studied the change of landscape of the Park from 2007 to 2018 and calculate the value of the carbon storage based on InVEST model. The results showed a general trend of increase in carbon storage, with 84.85% increase overall. The largest increase was from 2009 to 2011 of 19.38%. The carbon storage has achieved 567.3 kg/ha in 2018. The results suggested that forest and green land played an important role in carbon storage, and that green land should be prioritized for land planning to mitigate climate change in the future. |
