As Taiwan enters an aging society, I have been conducting volunteer Japanese language classes for local adults as part of lifelong education. In our classrooms learners aged above 50 are the majority, in which three times visitor sessions has been employed. By collecting data on free conversations in real-life situations, to analyze what communication strategies(CS) are used by these adult beginners. With reference to the research of Dörnyei&Kormos(1998), analysis criteria were framed. Based on the type and frequency of CS use, the most serious problem that adult learners at this stage face in expressing is vocabulary deficiency. And that they tend to repeatedly adopt the same CS they are familiar with. It was also confirmed that the visitor's response and language management have a great impact on the learners' expression. |
