It's found clinically that most of the parents of new immigrants care for burning injured children with the original national concept. This study is intent to improve the knowledge and emergency interventions of burns and scalds of new immigrants, and to reduce scalds in their children.
Methods: This study uses pictures with captions in Chinese and supplemented with Vietnamese and English, to conduct education courses related to burns and scalds knowledge and first aid treatment. A single-group pre- course and post-course investigation was conducted.
Results: A total of 32 new immigrants were recruited. The paired t test showed a significant difference (p< .01), and the overall correct answer fill rate of knowledge test rose from 54.4% to 71.0%. The satisfaction rate reached 93.2%.
Conclusion: Through the educational activities, the participants could understand the causes and prevention of burns. More research in the future was demanded to help new immigrants to learn about burns, reduce the chance of burns in their children, and to provide better care quality. |
