Working Mothers, Leisure Rights, and the Balance Between Work, Family, and Leisure |
英文摘要 |
This study aimed to explore Taiwanese working mothers’ leisure life experiences, their awareness of leisure rights, and how they pursue a balance between their leisure, work, and family life. A phenomenology approach was used, and nine married working mothers with at least one preschool child were interviewed. Results indicated that today’s working mothers in Taiwan demonstrated leisure right awareness and autonomy to choose their leisure activities; however, their role perception may undergo changes after starting a family and having children, when work and family may take precedence. In addition, working mothers’ leisure boundaries were squeezed by work and family. It is necessary to create integration and segmentation coping strategies through family negotiation and leisure support to provide working mothers with better leisure life. Implications for working women were proposed to meet their leisure needs, and also provide recommendations for future research. |
