Among the 2018 production of 'When the World Quiets Down-Vocal Music based on Poems of Xiang Yang', the world debut song 'Bite Tongue Poem' was a combination of Mandarin and Taiwanese. Possessing a very high artistic conception, this poem has become a very challenging piece to composers. Particularly, the palindrome structure of the poem is the first one which has ever appeared in the history of Chinese art songs. This article elucidated translating the poem 'Bite Tongue Poem' into music from various aspects, including the architectural structure, the tune and rhythm of the verses, the artistic conception of the lyrics, keywords in the lyrics, as well as the rhythm of the poem. To be the performer, should understand how the composer expresses this poem through music first. Then brings out the composer's creativity from the silent staff to the actual music along with one's own interpretation, as well as delivering out the magic of both words and music – in order to reveal the complete picture of translating from the poem into the song." |
