"1950s witnessed the introduction of modernism into Taiwan and its subsequent ferment there. Modern Poetry Association, Blue-star Poetry Association and Genesis Poetry Association all contributed significantly to the development of Taiwan modern poetry. As Blue-star Poetry Weekly is the first official publication of the Blue-star Poetry Association publishing works by its members, literary historians should not forget to pay attention to this important periodical. This author observes that BSPW is a precious space for publishing poems, for promoting poetry with lyricism and poetic art, and for protecting modern poetry with the enthusiasm of a guardian angel. In addition to poems, BSPW also published articles reflecting on the members, attitudes of writing modern poetry and advocating a poetry free of vagueness and political intervention. This present article will comprehensively examine BSPW in terms of editorial policy, circulation, poets and their works including translation and criticism. It will also demonstrate that BSPW appeared and continued publication in times of hardship, that it was sustained by the perseverance of the poets and that different opinions about poetry were aired and communicated." |
