In this paper, students from the Department of Applied Japanese who can not go to school for some reasons in the current COVID-19 pandemic and thus attend HyFlex courses were interviewed, about the problems, merit, demerit, and their expectations for the courses. Results from the interviews are analyzed with KJ method. The results illustrate the existence of many problems, including those caused by instructors, the problem with internet connections, technical issues concerning the hardware transmitting or receiving data, the problem of course contents, the problem with other students who also attend the HyFlex courses, and so on. Students can not solve these problems by themselves, and become quite frustrated whenever they attend the courses. As a result, as indicated in the following comment from the students, that “if I had a choice, I won’t attend this kind of course ever again”, they come to hold a negative view towards the HyFlex courses. |
