本文是關於1949年以來台灣本土佛教史學與思想變革詮釋問題的探索，但本文的全文內容和其相關的詮釋觀點，並非此次才第一次提出，而是綜合多年來的論述成果而來。因此，是作為交流與切磋的參考資料，所以並非封閉性的學術主張。本文認為：從發展歷程來看，1949年以來的台灣本土的現代佛學研究環境，雖曾歷經長達38年（1949-1987）之久的戒嚴體制，但是其因其能與現代性社會的發展接近同步。因而，解嚴後的當代台灣地區，雖無再度出現如：胡適、陳垣或印順等這樣的研究巨人，但卻有區域性佛教現代史或斷代佛教社會文化史各類優秀的著作相繼出現。以1949年為界的前後期學術研究的兩代繼承過程中，不只沒有完全斷裂過，反而是更善於轉型和多元化。所以，本文下述的討論分成：(一)1949年以前的台灣現代佛學研究史回顧、(二)1949年以來台灣本土的現代性佛學研究史回顧、(三)關於一九四九年以來的詮釋史檢討及其問題釐定，三大重點來探討。
