This research aims to explore contemporary visual art practitioners, under the concept of access & social inclusion, to rethink the dynamics of exhibition practice. Taking the visually impaired group to visit and experience the contemporary digital artwork ''Melody of Motion'' in Digital Art Center, Taipei as a case of action research, it explores ways of planning conducted by visually impaired visitors regarding their sensory experience derived from direct contacts of contemporary art works. The results of the study show that regarding the assistive of accessing information, the needs of visually impaired audiences are different from those of general audiences. However, by inviting experts and scholars to give input during the exhibition planning or exhibition creation, curators and artists will have the opportunity to provide access of diverse audiences, incorporating their needs into the thinking and planning process. With substantial and applicable means of exhibition, it is possible to actualize the authentic functions of museums to promote access and social inclusion. |
