In the light of communicative pragmatics, this paper aims to explore the interactions between Li Chun-Sheng(李春生), the author, and the people he met in Japan in the novel ''A Journal of Sixty-four Days Trip to the East''(東遊六十四日隨筆). In this paper, interpersonal reactions are regarded as a kind of language performance in human behavior. It is found that people would use several communicative strategies to interact with each other based on different goals. These acts will be analyzed with the cooperative principle(Grice 1975)and polite principle(Leech 1983). Several conversational implicatures are found by examining Li Chun-Sheng's interactions with politicians, businessmen, reporters and other Christians, respectively. |
