The Memory of the World (MoW) Programme of 1992 represents UNESCO's plan to protect valuable archival and documentation history. The MoW Programme is a long-term project, aiming to stimulate countries' government, communities and individuals to value and protect their documentary heritage, such as manuscripts, books, historical documents, monuments, oral records, and to use libraries, archives and museums to make it easier for the public to access these. It is important to learn how to preserve, maintain and disseminate, and use these documents in order to promote awareness of their existence and the importance of documentary heritage. To enhance the breadth and vision of the preservation of documentary heritage, Taiwan's Bureau of Cultural Heritage implemented the ''Memory of the World National Register of Taiwan Programme'' in 2016, aligned to international standards to establish the national register of Taiwan as well as elevate preservation action of Taiwan documentary heritage. The paper will discuss the staged achievements and follow-up strategies of the programme. |
