With the advent of the digital age and advancements in technology, computers make possible complex computations and programming. Conventional weaving patterns were hard to calculate and draw manually, however via design calculation method the difficulties can be resolved. Therefore, this study is based on digital design, integrating textile structural systems, experimenting with the fabrication of actual materials and discussing possible applications to building construction. This research begins with understanding weaving techniques found in fabric, as the foundation methodology to be further developed into a basic modular unit. Following considerations of potential material, carbon fibre and glass fibre as the main materials in experimenting using robotic arm to circulate the designed path of weave. Research is conducted in modular system via parametric tools, then developed into a building façade system through a series of modular interconnections. In general, the objective would be experimenting with carbon fibre and glass fibre weaving potential in architecture by means of digital design tools, following by digital fabrication and assembly of actual scale model. Outcome of the research aims to open up a discussion on the relationship of weaving architecture and digital fabrication as a platform for future researchers to explore. |
