Cultural evolves from various different cultural traditions. This characteristic phenomenon can draw an analogy to biological inheritance. How do you catch on the '' cultural'' pulsation and incorporate concepts to the design of cultural products? Furthermore, how to design cultural products into a way to pass on inher-itances? These are serious and worth-exploring issues. This article reviews the research on cultural genes on the aspects of cultural evolution, inheritance pathways, architectural landscapes preservation, and business identification. However, the past research on cultural products lacks the concept of biological design, which thus became the main interest of this paper. This study takes Tamsui, which comprises high-density multi-cultural elements in Taiwan, as an example. The study explores the similarities and differences between biological and cultural genes from literature, and then, proposes a process of product design in combination with the concept of biological inheritance. At last, the verification of the design procedure is implemented through the manufacture of a three-dimensional model of Fort San Domingo. The final model design pro-poses a possibility of effective inheritance through cultural products with the concept of cultural genetics, which is a distinction with general cultural product designing concepts. The final design applying the concept of cultural genetics in this research might make contribution to the enhancement of cultural value and market competitiveness of cultural products. |
