This paper describes the use of an innovative clinical practice nowin theworks.TheChildren'sCancerWard statistics from January to June of 2006 showed that 74% of all children using antiemetic agentssufferedfromnauseaandvomiting.Theyalsoshowedthatpatients'familymembersoftenusedclothing,hatsor pillows to cover the infusion bags in order to reduce patients'nausea and vomiting.This discovery of thispraticewas themotivationbehinda creativenewdesignfor infusionbags. ImplementingthenewdesignfromSeptember 2006 to January 2007 had a significant effect: out of 21 patients, the number of patients whoreported vomiting reduced from14 (66.7%) to 7(33.3%); and 14 patients (66.7%) reported an increasedfoodintakebyusingit.After coveringthebags fullofnauseatingchemical agents, thenewdesignis expectedtoreducevomiting,enhancemedicalcarequality,andiscertainlyworthimplementionandclinicalapplication. |
