The Highlights from the National Archives, the particular exhibition arranged by the National Archives Administration calls for the awareness of the public to seek to bear witness to important milestones in the process of national development and the social and economic change. With so many national archival holdings and so few resources to provide the whole pictures of them, this article introduces the context and setting of the selection of remarkable archives. In the program, seven topics are grouped under the contents of those remarkable archives including“The Founding of the Nation”,“National Security and Political Development”,“Public Infrastructure to Benefit the People”,“Paving the Way to Taiwan's Economic Miracle”,“Education and Culture in the ROC”,“A Social Safety Net Woven from Varied Strands”and“Government Administration at the Local Level”. The selection of remarkable archives from volumes of archival holdings focus on the principles including important history events, policies with major influences and issues with attentions in society. In addition, the characteristic of the documents with subject extensions, the value of research and the potentiality in reuse are also took into considerations. At the beginning, 194 items are considered of important. Finally, among then, 70 have been defined remarkable and the features of the exhibition have been decided. Finally, the 1949 Quemoy Battle and related archives represented as an example to demonstrate the process of the selection of archives. |
