This article is intended to introduce the contents of the archives transferred from China Telecommunication Company to the National Archives Administration. It will discuss the struggling history of the telecommunication in post-war Taiwan, based on my book, The Telecommunication Giant, China Telecommunication Company, Ltd. Firstly, it points out the value of the archives, leading to the possible usages for the future, in order to interest readers. Secondly, it introduces the Changes of organizations which administered the development of the telecommunication industry in post-war Taiwan. The industry was initially monopolized by the General Telecommunication Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, which served both the roles of policy-making and execution. However, in order to de-monopolize the telecommunication industry, the government set up a national company, China Telecommunication Company, separated from the Bureau to bethe practical business on November 16, 1998. Further, the Company was transformed into a privatized company on August 28, 2005. This reflects a long and struggling story of the liberalization of the telecommunication industry. Lastly, it discusses the main contents of the archives: 1. The Advantages, Difficulties and Breakthrough, 2. The Long March of the Emergence of China Telecommunication Company, 3. The Severe Conflicts during the Privatization of China Telecommunication Company. |
