The government of ROC had relocated in Taiwan after the Civil War in 1949. Facing the severe military threat from the other side of Taiwan Strait, Taiwan was inferior to the Mainland China in territory, population, natural resources and military ability. However, relying on elaborate diplomatic efforts, especially the close defense cooperation and bilateral relations with US, Taiwan had ridden out the Taiwan Strait Crises. This article will review the development of diplomatic relations and the transition of defense cooperation between ROC and US in 1950s, the toughest times Taiwan had gotten through. |
