流行性感冒主要經由飛沫傳播，由於禽流感可能突變造成人傳人的高傳播力和高致死率，因此，疑似或確診病人應安置於單人病室，並儘可能是負壓隔離病室。同時，醫療工作人員必須高度警覺，照護病人時採取標準防護、接觸防護、飛沫防護，甚至加上空氣防護等各項感染管制措施。防護策略包括預防性用藥、洗手、適當使用個人防護裝備、環境的維護、醫療用物的清潔與消毒、布單類以及醫療廢棄物的處理。
