Famous nation-wide, produced the flour with the brand''Dragonfly'', Keelung Flour Mill tops the one of the oldest flour plants in Taiwan. Started in February 1922 till September 2000, the mill has brought tremendous contribution to Taiwan, with its seventy-nine years of history. Took turns, Keelung Flour Mill belonged to Hainan Flour Mills Co. Ltd., Taiwan Animal Husbandry Corporation, Taiwan agricultural and Forest Co. Ltd., and Taiwan agricultural and industrial Co. Ltd.. In the beginning, under the Hainan Flour Mills, Keelung Flour Mill had the most efficient scale in Taiwan; the maximum production could compete against Japan. After WWII, KMT government took over the Keelung Flour Mill; thus it became a state-owned enterprise. After 1972, it became the only mill run by the government. A public cooperation, it constantly followed the government policies to produce flour to stabilize commodity prices. In the mean time, private mills started to grow and compete against it; Keelung had to expand the production capacity. In 1975, Keelung Flour Mill built a second plant to fulfill the market demands. Only in 1990's, the cutthroat price competition, led by the private mills, began to strengthen its territory; Keelung met the downfall, the business decreased immensely. It finally shut down at September 2000. |
