Collection arrangement is a long-term process in museums, and it needs lots of patience to deal with. Following the rules that regulate the numbering system and the way of encoding, marking is the first step of the long-term process. Moreover, a museum has to build up its own marking rules based on the characteristics of collections to make marking process consistently. However, there are some exceptions that couldn't fit to the rules and have to be handled individually. This article introduces the marking rules of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature and two examples of exception founded during the process of marking. One is that the quantity of physical objects doesn't match the marking number, and the other is that unexpected object founded in the accessioned collections. For future exhibit and research, the author thinks that it is important to take management of physical objects and interpretation of intellectual content into considerations while marking collections. |
