The purpose of this plan was to reduce noise levels in wards. According to theresults of the questionnaire "Service Satisfaction of Inpatients" collected in ourward in 2002, the score for "Quietness in the ward" was the lowest among the 23items of our questionnaire. Obviously, noise in the wards was what our patientswere most unsatisfied with. In order to improve this problem and offer our patientsa quieter medical environment, we established an action team to monitor the noiseand hoped that the findings would improve our patients' satisfaction regardingquietness. After collecting data, we noticed the noise mainly came from the medicalstaff, the printer in the ward, the ringing of the phones, the visitors, the sounds ofmoving all kinds of medical carts and closing the doors. We responded to thesediscoveries by educating our staff and patients' family, making warning signs andkeeping our medical instruments in good condition. In a subsequent survey, thepatients' satisfaction index rose from 3.06 to 3.34. These improvements not onlyincrease our patients' satisfaction and make the atmosphere among medical staffmore tranquil, but also can be a reference in our hospital for overall noise controlin the future. |
