This study was used to evaluate the level, direction and quality of nursing researches. The Taiwan National Library Index was used to identify 1814 papers from 1996 to2002. Three nursing experts identified 130(7.2%) medical and surgical nursing papers, using the SIGN hierarchy evidence evaluating system to assess the evidence. Eightynine(68.5%) of the 130 studies explored specific problems of patients; only 17(13.7%) studies focused on the effectiveness of nursing practices and could be labeled aslevel 1 or 2 evidences. The highest score of the quality indicators was based onwhether the study objectives were clear, whether the treatment was similar betweentwo groups, and whether the subjects were randomly allocated. The lowest scorewas based on whether adequate concealment methods were used, whether treatmentallocation was kept 'blind', and whether the study results are comparable for all sites. The information will be beneficial for future evidence-based nursing researches. |
