Glaucoma is the second main reason of blindness in the world, and the longterm treatment and controling intraocular pressure have very important influences on the course of disease and prognosis. This text described the health problems of a primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patient, when he was admitted to hospital, the signs were redeye , tearing, eye pain, deficient knowledge of glaucoma and a lot of doubt and anxiety. The primary nurse used Gordon 11 Functional Health Pattern to assess , observe and interview. Final nursing diagnoses included: Acute Pains , Deficient Knowledge , Ineffective Individual Coping, etc. Nursing staff offered the patient total care of psychology support, knowledge of glaucoma and self-care instruction. The result showed the patient did increase his cognitive ability, promote self-confidence and maintain visual acuity. After six months of follow-up tracing by phone, the patient gained normal intraocular pressure and kept good relationship with his family and friends. |
