This project was designed to increase day shift nurses' satisfaction. The method of survey was a developed questionnaire with 5-item Likert scale as the tool. The first result revealed the mean score at 2.13, presenting nurses' satisfaction as uncertain or not satisfied. The reasons for this were regarded as work overload, frequent handing over to the next shift, loss of control of overtime, lack of continuous case caring, interferance with their social plans with friends and plans for further education. Another survey focused on nursing activities, such as duty allocation and content arranging. After communicating and coordinating with the ward manager and staff, the original day class-working timetables from Sam to 12n and 2pm to 6pm was adjusted to a new working timetable from Sam to 4pm. It was carried out for one year and the nurses' satisfaction increased up to a 4.25, beeing satisfied and very satisfied. Moreover, their intentions to carry on with the new day shift timetable increased to 100%. This result demonstrated the experience of handling the problem in day duty class through the process of administering a project shift elevating nurses' satisfaction with day class. Finally, this new day shift working timetable has also been introduced to other wards and highly valued by officials of the hospital. |
