Due to the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), infection control in hospitals is more and more important, and has also changed the behavior of medical care facilities and medical personnel. To face probable recurrence in the observational period after the outbreak of SARS, besides maintaining the quality of the medical care, self-protection when coming into contact with a patient must be enforced. However, carring out the precautions of isolation is a necessary means to break the spread nosocomial infection and recurrence of the outbreak of SARS. The strategy of precautions are to develop handwashing habits, according to the degree of contact with the patient and characteristic of the ward, to the appropriate use of personal protection equipment, and also the management of visitors and caregivers. Cleanliness and disinfecting of medical materials and equipment, dealing with the cloth and medical wastes, and maintenance of the environment are also part of this strategy. |
