The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore self-care needs of the elderly living alone. In-depth interviews were used to collect data from twelve elders. Content analysis was used to analyze data. The results showed that self-care needs of the elderly living alone could be classified into six themes, including illness management impediment, managing constraint in daily living housework, economic resource insufficiency, emotional disturbance, family support system imbalance, and isolation from the outside. The findings of this study can provide implications for planning systematic and continuous care services. |
