Bipolar disorder with recurrent manic, major depressive or mixed episodes, is one kind of mood disorder. In manic episodes, the patient usually has an elated mood, hyper-talkative, having tons of ideas, idea of grandiosity and even active psychotic symptoms. The possible etiologies involve genetic, biochemical, environmental and medication factors. Intervented by administering mood stabilizers such as adequate lithium is important. Thorough evaluation by nursing staff should include physical condition, mood state, cognitive function, social and spiritual aspects. |
