THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH ON THE SECONDARY LEVEL IN TAIWAN (ROC) PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS (6)

教師若是心灰意懶，熱情喪盡，那末，他便會覺得事事不稱心。待遇太微薄，課堂時數太多，課本太深，一班學生人數太多，對英文感到興趣者尤少等等。他覺得毫無信心，只好隨波逐流，對改變現狀的可能連想都不想。英語教師如果在教學上初嘗成功滋味，學生反應頗佳，對任何練習的機會都不輕易放過，顯得主動好學，那末，教師一定不計辛苦，會找出更好的教學法來幫助學生。

A disillusioned teacher, i. e. a teacher who has lost his enthusiasm in the classroom will find fault with practically all aspects of his teaching job: too little money, too many periods a day, too difficult a textbook, too big classes, too many students who are not at all interested in the study of English etc. He does not feel like being able to change anything and therefore will not even contemplate a change. -An English teacher, however, who has tasted success, whose students begin to react favorably to his teaching approach by practicing the language skills whenever there is a chance to do so, will constantly be on the look-out for better ways and means which may help his students to make rapid progress.
