Tn his two weeks' experiment the writer was faced constantly wah most of the problems discussed above. At the outset the teachers as well as their students were curious about this unusual undertaking and voiced strong doubts about a successful outcome. The writer could do nothing but trust ln the students' natural inclination towards new experiments and activities. Would they come along all the way? From the very first minute on the students were addressed in English, only very difficult vocabulary or structural items were briefly explained in Chinese. The English used had to be, of course, very simple and was as far as possible accompanied by gestures and dramatization to facilitate understanding. |
