This paper begins with an examination of Chang's ''Rendezvous'' (''Xiangjian huan'') in attempt to analyze how the writing experiments has been involved in this work. ''Rendezvous,'' as it appears, can be regarded as an ordinary piece; however, as this paper attempts to argue, it is a place where a great variety of stories was to be born. Chang blocks the communication between the characters by using the speech (parole) barrier. Yet the self-contained barrier forces the short novel to be reopened endlessly and inexhaustibly from anywhere. The speech barrier is capable of making each tell his or her various stories from each of his or her world. Hence, speech serves as the point of departure of the diverse interpretations, producing the multiplicity of the literature. |
