Since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. and Taiwan government have constantly proposed suggestions on establishment of cross-strait military mutual trust mechanism. However, after Hu Jintao became the communist leader of China, a new approach for ''establishment of cross-strait military mutual trust mechanism'' has been proposed in his overall strategies in order to deal with cross-strait military and security issues. In 2008, KMT returned to power again and the cross-strait institutional consultations between Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) were reinitiated. Such an accomplishment represents that cross-strait relation has stepped into the stage of institutional development. Beijing government suggests that this is a special historical opportunity for cross-strait relation, and the peaceful development is evolving in cross-strait relation. Therefore, Beijing government has a high expectation for the establishment of military mutual trust mechanism. Therefore, this study intends to conduct a preliminary evaluation and analysis on the cross-strait military mutual trust mechanism promoted by Communist Party of China (CPC) at current stage. The purposes are: to demonstrate the course of CPC's promotion of establishment of cross-strait military mutual trust mechanism, to summarize the contents and procedures of CPC's establishment of mechanism, to analyze CPC's strategies for promotion of mechanism at current stage, to investigate the core difficulties and problems encountered in currently. |
