圖書館學之理論基礎

The Theoretical Foundations of Library Science

圖書館學在二十世紀成長茁壯。但自1970年代以來，資訊科學的興起，改變了圖書館學唯我獨尊的局面。本文探討圖書館學之理論基礎，試圖在過去的發展軌跡中，找尋出圖書館學不變的素質與特徵，使其在與資訊科學的整合中，不致失去自我而繼續適存於當前的二十一世紀。本文旨在探討圖書館與圖書館學之名詞釋義，圖書館之任務、功能、價值與服務，圖書館學之本質，圖書館學之理論，圖書館學之研究範圍，圖書館學教育之理念與發展；並試論圖書館學與資訊科學之關係，以及圖書館學之未來展望。本文結論指出，圖書館學與資訊科學整合，乃時勢所趨，亦將在二十一世紀之時代環境中適存而繼續發展。

Library Science greatly flourished during the 20th century. But the emergence of information science since the 1970's has changed the monopoly of library science in the management of library materials and information resources. This paper discusses the theoretical foundations of library science and intends to find out the basic elements and characteristics of library science. This paper hopes to show that library science would withstand all the challenges in its partnership with information science and continue to thrive and claim its significance in the 21st century. This paper discusses the following aspects: the meaning of library and library science; the mission, function, values and services of a library; the nature of library science; the theories of library science; the range of academic studies in library science; the ideas and development of library science education; the relationship between library science and information science; as well as the future development of library science. This paper concludes that library science will continue to stand in the 21st century and claim its importance through its partnership with information science to become one united study of library and information science.
