The LCA of building embodied carbon is a very important newly developing research topic during the escalating crisis of global warming. In spite of European standard EN15978 is recommending building service systems, should be adopted into the calculation boundary in the LCA of building embodied carbon, but it has big problem because of the shortage of reliable embodied carbon database for these systems. In order to remove this problem, this paper propose a simplified estimation method using regression formulas and building floorarea data to predict the initial embodied carbon of conduit systems. The building samples and inventory product data in this analysis came from the real completed project of 34 low-middle rise condominium buildings and 28 highrise condominium buildings which supported by two building service system design companies in Taiwan. The embodied carbon data of conduit product data is taken from the official database of ABRI-LCC. This paper established the carbon database of building conduit products according to the specification of China National Standard firstly. Based on this database, 9 regression formulas for predicting the initial embodied carbon of three conduit systems, water supply & drainage, electricity, fire safety systems, were developed finally. Because pipeline fire protection and automatic sprinkler in highrise buildings are strengthened by the Building Technical Regulation, these formulas are established separately according to low-middle rise and high rise condominium building. With high recorrelation coefficients of 0.75~0.94, these regression formulas are believed to have an acceptable accuracy for the initial embodied carbon prediction of conduit systems.
