自清朝以來，歷經日本統治，直到當今，城隍出巡一直是嘉義市傳統宗教信仰上的一大盛事，許多學者對其宗教活動已有較詳盡的論述與關注。然而，嘉義城隍廟至今仍有許多細膩的「微史實」或「微歷史」尚待學界投入時間研究或加以補述，本文主要是透過「微史實」或「微歷史」的呈現，讓學界過去對嘉義城隍廟立論未定、史事模糊不清、或是廟史重要性未被凸顯、歷史意義沉淪不彰等現象有機會重新獲得檢視。

From the Qing Dynasty, through Japanese Colonial Era, until now, Cheng Huang Patrol has been a major event of traditional religious belief in Chiayi City. Many scholars have already elaborated and paid attention to related religious activities. However, there are still many minute “micro-historical facts” or “microhistory” remaining for scholars to invest time in investigation or in replenishment. The purpose of this article is to re-examine phenomena such as indecisive arguments about the Chiayi Cheng Huang Temple, ambiguous historical facts, the undervalued importance of the temple history, or indeterminate historical significance etc. through presence of “micro-historical facts” or “microhistory”.
