The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among hostile cognition, anger emotion, and anger coping style for junior high school students and to construct a cognitive model of junior high school students’ anger. Data were drawn from the 2011 Psychological Assessment Corporation’s dataset of Emotional Anger Rating Scale scores, and data obtained from 2,306 seventh and eighth graders from Hsinchu City and New Taipei City were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results indicated that the constructed cognitive model fit the data adequately and that hostile cognition affected anger emotion and anger coping style. Moreover, anger emotion played a major mediating role in the effect of hostile cognition on anger coping style. On the basis of the study findings, this paper discusses implications for further research and practice. |
