The Long Stay industry has become the most popular star in travel industry. The baby boomers who were now entering the aging society changed the population structure of the world. Therefore, senior travel formed an significant portion of the whole travel market. The concept of Long Stay was originated from the Rio Declaration, and indicated that this travel pattern was based on a longer stay (more than 2 weeks) in foreign countries. During the stay the Long Stayers got involved with the local community they lived and facilitated an earth-friendly environment. This study is aimed to explore the development of urban Long Stay in Taiwan. With the review of the origin and definition of Long Stay, the current situation of Long Stay development, and the SWOT analysis, the future deployment of urban Long Stay was discussed. As a result of study, it is recommended that urban Long Stay could be a ready to use tool for Taiwan to compete with those Southeastern Asia Countries. The development should focus on the Japanese customers and then expand to the other Western nations. The benefit of Long Stay development can be multiple-function in culture exchange, rural economic development, and international stance. |
