Art-based method is one of qualitative research methods that has been highly recognized in recent decade. Art-based method can help participants provide rich and deep information that might be limited by traditional qualitative research methods which rely on words and text analysis. Therefore, art-based method is valuable in a way that it complements traditional qualitative research methods and brings diverse information that broaden our understanding of our target participants. The purpose of this study was to explain what arts-based method was by presenting three studies as examples. This study also discussed challenges and proposed suggestions for future study as well as applications for practitioners. We hope, through our study, qualitative researchers can consider using art-based method as an alternative ways of gathering research information in order to enrich their studies.
