The classic symptoms of thyrotoxicosis include fine tremor, palpitations, heat intolerance, weight loss, anxiety, increased frequency of bowel movements, and shortness of breath. Bilateral pitting type of pretibial edema is noted commonly among patients with systemic diseases, such as heart, liver or renal diseases, while pitting edema is a rare clinical presentation of hyperthyroidism. We report the case of a 50-year-old woman experiencing bilateral lower extremities edema and weight loss. After blood test, urine analysis, X-ray examination, and thyroid scan, Grave’s disease with hyperthyroidism was diagnosed. In reporting the case, the article also performs a literature review of hyperthyroidism with pretibial edema.
