Natural turf maintenance in the soccer field has a substantial impact upon quality of the soccer game. Furthermore, the condition of the playing surface would influence player performance as well. Also, weather and events hosted caused deterioration of the grass field. This means that maintenance of the playing surface requires more dedicated management resources. Thus, the aim of this paper was to analyze turf maintenance issues in the soccer stadium. Relevant literatures were examined and the National Stadium was selected as the subject of this paper. The findings showed that positioning of the stadium and level of user performance would determine required maintenance efforts. Two main approaches were proposed for the provision of maintenance program; to either employ professional staff and purchase essential machines or secure a contractor for natural turf maintenance. A solid maintenance scheme should include soil testing, fertilization, mowing, watering requirements, aeration, returfing, topdressing, pester management, drainage and weeds management. Furthermore, practices, such as slicing mating, coring and compacted rolling, were identified in the maintenance scheme. In addition, this paper presented some recommendation for the managerial practice and future study. |
