Purpose: This study aimed to explore the relationship between parental stress of mothers of premature babies and the needs of early intervention services. Method: Purposive sampling was used in this study. The data were collected by the questionnaire which included demographic information of participants and their premature, the Parenting Stress Index, and needs of early intervention, and analyzed with correlation analysis. Result: The findings suggest mothers of premature have moderate parental stress and "parental anxiety" largely impacts on their stress level. In terms of the needs of early intervention services, mothers of premature have the highest demand for "social resources level" and "educational resource level". Besides, the parental stress is correlated with the needs for early intervention services. The higher parental stress of mothers have, the more early intervention services they will need. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that mothers of premature have moderate parental stress and have high demand for early intervention services. It’s needed to provide adequate and effective health care information to the mothers of the premature. Via early intervention, caregivers and other family members are empowered and enabled to facilitate the development of premature and ease the parental stress as well. |
